The cornea is a transparent layer of the eye, 10–12 mm in diameter, which, like a watch glass, covers the colored structure of the eye called the iris.

Corneal pathologies are classified into:
  • Congenital (anomalies, tumors, dystrophies, inflammations, injuries);
  • Acquired (trauma, postoperative scarring);
  • Dystrophic;
  • Inflammatory.
Clouding or deformation of the corneal surface prevents normal passage of light rays to the inner structures of the eye and leads to image distortion on the retina or even complete vision loss.
Corneal diseases
  • Keratitis
  • Corneal dystrophy
  • Keratoconus (keratoglobus)
  • Corneal opacity
